Our employability qualifications help people build the practical skills they need to find work, succeed at work, and progress in their careers. Developed with employers and recruitment professionals, every unit focuses on real-world situations — from writing CVs and preparing for interviews to managing time, working in teams and understanding workplace expectations.

There are no exams. Learners build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their skills, supported by their assessor throughout. Qualifications are available from Entry Level 2 to Level 2, making them suitable for people at every stage — whether just starting to think about work or preparing for a specific job role.

The facilities industry employs over 700,000 people in the UK across cleaning, building maintenance, waste management, security and customer service. Our Level 1 qualification gives people with no prior experience the knowledge and practical skills to start a career in this sector.

Functional Skills English & Maths

City & Guilds 4748 Series

Functional Skills in English and maths are nationally recognised qualifications that prove you can use these skills in real-life situations — reading workplace documents, writing emails, calculating measurements and handling data. If you haven’t yet achieved a GCSE grade C/4 in English or maths, you are legally entitled to study Functional Skills for free.

Our assessments are available on-demand — no waiting for exam windows. Tests can be taken onscreen or on paper, with results typically available within days.

City & Guilds 4748-02 · Level 1 and Level 2
Three components: Speaking, Listening & Communicating (assessed internally through discussions and presentations), Reading (externally marked) and Writing (externally marked). Available on-demand via onscreen testing.
City & Guilds 4748-04 · Level 1 and Level 2
Single exam per level in two sections: non-calculator (25%) and calculator (75%). Focuses on practical problem-solving with numbers, measures, shape and data handling. On-demand testing with flexible scheduling.

For learners building foundational maths skills. Covers whole numbers, fractions, money, time, length, weight and simple data. Internally assessed with no formal exam — learners complete tasks set by City & Guilds and marked by their tutor.

Our highest-level qualification, equivalent to a full degree. For senior H&S professionals with strategic responsibility. This is the primary NVQ pathway to IOSH Chartered Membership (CMIOSH). Covers organisational strategy, policy, audit, culture change and professional development. Holders of the Level 5 can progress via recognition of prior learning.
